Hi babes!
Here are 20 small habits i'm incorporating in my life to stay on track and be better!
20 Small Habits That Will Change Your Life In 6 Months
1. Make your bed
Start your day by making your bed, and a good morning routine.
Your future self will thank you.
2. Stay hydrated
Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning and continue to drink 3-5L of water every day. This is tough for me, but i definitely feel better when I do it.
3. Step outside
Getting fresh air and being outdoors first thing in the morning gives you an instant hit of cortisol. Also wakes you up for the day and increases your mood. We are not meant to be locked indoors
4. Get active first thing in the morning
I incorporate step 3 & 4 together by going for a morning walk first thing. Walking is such an underrated exercise. It puts you in the right mindset for your day. Try walking for 40 mins or yoga/pilates and watch your mood increase.
5. Review your goals
Remind yourself who you want to be and be actively already doing things that suit. The best form of delulu and making your manifestations come in is already being the person you would be when they do. Writing down your goals holds yourself more accountable and putting them out there on paper into the world gives them a higher chance of happening.
6. Read self development books
Im heavy on the self help books lately, they are eye opening and because i love psychology and im in my self development era they are definitely worth the read - book recommendation is Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before By Julie Smith.
Side note: if reading isnt for you you can purchase audiobooks on Spotify and give these a listen instead.
7. Take a 1-2 minute cold shower
If you haven't seen our other blog on cold therapy, definitely go back and read bout the benefits! Taking a cold shower each day is high on the priority list.
8. Send a nice text to make someones day
As someone that loves receiving these, sending a nice message to a loved one only takes a couple of seconds and can completely make someones day. Showing people you love them and thinking about them also makes you feel connected and good as well. Send the message.
9. Hide your phone
One of my many roles is content creation, so this one is a little hard for me sometimes however, I also edit photos, work on websites, email, write blogs, talk with suppliers and manufacturers, pack and ship orders etc all of which i don't need my phone. I work in time blocks with uninterrupted time put aside to make my productivity at its highest and to smash out what I need to get done. This means not touching or being distracted by my phone.
This even relates to not working times. As a generation of people that cannot be "bored" we tend to pick up our phones as a habit to cure boredom or to distract ourselves by doom scrolling. This is a really unhealthy form of dopamine - the feel good chemical. Its a scary world we live in when we are looking to a device for dopamine instead of using one of the many natural dopamine givers such as: Getting creative, exercise, sunlight, listening to music, achieving goals, cuddling with your loved one, learning a new skill, reading a book - if they aren't better then mindless scrolling, i don't know what is.
10. Enhance your mood with music
As someone that likes all genres of music, my rule of thumb is, play music for the mood you want to be in. if you are feeling sad, DO NOT play sad music. Put something on that makes your heart sing, makes you want to get up and dance.
11. Drink water before meals
A little trick to ensure you are not over eating is to drink a little bit of water before your meals. Sometimes we mistake dehydration for hunger.
12. Listen to self development podcasts
If you haven't realised yet we are big on self development. I believe there is always room for growth and I have dedicated this year to going back to my roots, my belief systems, my attachment styles, my deepest darkest moments and working through each one. Its been rough but its been amazing and a weight lifted off my shoulders. Self development podcasts have helped me alot with this. I also like listening to podcast that motivate me. If you didn't know, i've been working on my own. It shouldn't be much longer :)
13. Write down tomorrow's 3:3:3 plan
Have you heard of the 3:3:3 plan?
That is 3 hours on your most important project, 3 shorter tasks and 3 maintenance activities. This ensures a productive day.
14. End your day with a close down routine
Of an evening, I start a "close" routine. Kind of like shutting down a restaurant or putting the house to bed. This is doing a quick tidy, ensuring everything is in its place, the dishwasher is put on etc. Waking up to organised clean home is essential for my mental health.
15. Journal one beautiful thing that happened each day
This is something i'm working on. We are always working towards the next thing, we are always searching, always looking toward the future. I am in a mindset that I dont want to be living in the future wishing my life away and want to present so I am taking the time to show gratitude, to journal one good thing that happened each day.
16. Stay on top of washing and prepare your outfit the night before
If you're anything like me, you dont mind doing the washing... that is the washing machine does all the work, then you hang to dry and then fold them and they sit in a pile on your lounge for a week before you bring yourself to put them away. Well, im not allowing that anymore! If i put a load on I know that by the end of the day it needs to be put away. It feels so much better! I also prepare what im wearing for the next day because if i dont, the amount of clothes that get taken out and not put back in my mad rush to get ready is the very reason my wardrobe gets trashed haha.
17. Meal prep & Sunday reset
Something I used to love doing was meal prepping on Sundays. I would spend the morning getting groceries for the week and then a few hours cooking and prepping my meals for the week ahead. It was cost efficient, made me feel more organised and less stressed every day about lunches and dinners. Sunday reset is the washing of the sheets, school uniforms, work uniforms, cleaning bathrooms and main rooms and getting ready for the week ahead.
18. Dont scroll or look at devices before bed
We are all so guilty of this but its not a good habit. It reduces sleep quality and really sets a tone for what you are thinking about before drifting off. I would recommend reading a book our putting on something to listen to with your eyes closed instead.
19. Practise breathing 4:7:8
This is such a good way to alleviate stress and calm yourself before drifting off.
Breathe in through your note for 4 seconds, hold it for 7 seconds, exhale for 8 seconds through your mouth. repeat 4 times.
20. Give your mind an overnight task
Our subconscious is a powerful tool. Rather then filling it with silly thoughts before drifting off, give it a task. Ask it a question. Don't try and solve it, just release it into your subconscious which will work on it overnight. Some of my best ideas have come from doing this technique.
I'd love to hear other tips you have so feel free to share them below! If you know someone that you think will benefit from this blog please share and tag!
